The ever increasing popularity of video websites such as YouTube has encouraged us to search the web for interesting and informative videos about neurodiversity. We have compiled a list of links of material we thought was interesting. However, this does not mean that we are in agreement with all of the content.

Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity Definition Video
A text based video which provides an excellent description to the concept of neurodiversity. Focuses mainly on Autism, but the definition could be applied to all types of learning difference. Warning - Some people may experience difficulties reading the moving text.

Neurodiversity and Autism
Adam Gluntz who has been labeled with Asperger’s gives an interesting talk about the social and institutional injustices placed on people with autism. Sound quality is a little poor, but certainly worth listening to.

Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome

My Crazy Life Part 1,  Part 2,  Part 3.
A documentary about the life of a 14/15 year old boy with Asperger’s called Reuben. Reuben has an IQ similar to Albert Einstein, but experiences social difficulties. He talks about his strategies for dealing with difficult social situations and contains some interesting and insightful ideas. He mentions his “socially weird” obsessions (I.e. the Brain and neurology) and the things he feels are socially acceptable for boys his age to be obsessed about (I.e. football and women).

Understanding Asperger’s Syndrome: A College Professor's Guide.
An interesting video for university staff about teaching people with Asperger’s Syndrome. Contains some useful ideas and strategies for teachers and university lecturers.

Neurotypical’s and Asperger’s
A young lady with Asperger’s Syndrome talks about the label, its meaning and the term neurotypical.

NBC Video
A brief news report about successful entrepreneurs with dyslexia. Richard Branson talks about how dyslexia has helped his business success.

A Graduate briefly talks about his experience of being dyslexic at university, and his experience of using a laptop.

Dyspraxia

My Dyspraxic  Mind
A young man talks about his experience of dyspraxia with the hope of raising awareness and recognition. Whilst the story of his experience is interesting, he tends to focus on the negative aspects associated with dyspraxia, and uses a lot of medical/deficit language.

What is Dyspraxia
In this short video, Professor Amanda Kirby from the University of Wales talks about the diagnosis of dyspraxia and developmental co-ordination disorder.

Tourette's Syndrome
Marc Elliot’s Experience of Tourette’s
Washington University Graduate Marc Elliot talks about his experience of Tourette’s Syndrome and some of the difficulties he experiences. A very interesting and insightful  video which is well worth viewing

Mad But Glad

Story about numerous neurodiverse people including Nick Van Bloss, who is a pianist identified with Tourette’s Syndrome. The video suggests the possibility that certain types of neurodiversity maybe lead to creativity and genius.

Fascinating video in which people talk very movingly and positively about their experiences of Tourette’s Syndrome. Also provides some history about Tourette’s.
